Open Access at ULiège

The University of Liège plays a key role within the Open-Access movement at a national and international scale, in particular thanks to its strong institutional policy.

Since 2007, ULiège has applied an institutional mandate regarding obligatory submissions for its open archive, ORBi. This mandate, updated in 2014, involves:

• an obligation to upload references for all ULiège members’ publications to ORBi;
• an obligation to upload the full text of all scientific articles published by ULiège members since 2002 to ORBi, as soon as it is accepted by the publisher;
• considering only references for publications that have been uploaded to ORBi for internal review by researchers.

ORBi

Created in 2008, ORBi (Open Repository and Bibliography) is the University of Liège’s institutional repository and bibliography.

As part of its creation, the institutional mandate regarding obligatory submissions was established within ULiège . Only publications and communications that are found in ORBi are taken into account for internal reviews.

Today, ORBi includes a huge number of references and full texts of publications, a significant number of which are Open Access. This significantly increases the visibility of publications from University of Liège researchers, thanks to excellent indexing with quality tools and open access, which is its core aim.

MatheO

Created in 2013, MatheO (Master Thesis Online) is the portal for accessing University of Liège masters’ dissertations. The purpose of this portal is to facilitate the conservation of dissertations that were written at ULiège, as well as greatly improve dissemination and visibility. Furthermore, it enables the implementation of an automated submissions process, which incorporates an ‘anti-plagiarism’ check.

DONum

Created in 2009, DONum (Dépôt d’Objets Numérisés) is a portal that "aims to host collections of digitised items from the collections of the various University of Liège departments." These items, which vary widely in nature (manuscripts, scientific tools or instruments, works of art, etc.), are both testaments to centuries of study and research and sources for our current researchers and students. Making these ‘items’ accessible online also enables us to establish the best possible conditions for conserving the originals.

PoPuPS

PoPuPS (Portail de Publication de Périodiques Scientifiques) is an online scientific incubator for periodicals, which was created in 2006. The aim of PoPuPS is to provide readers with immediate open access to all articles and to offer publishers a simple and affordable solution for publishing their periodical(s), without losing independence and with maximum visibility. 

PoPuPS publishes over 20 periodicals and conference reports in the fields of human and social sciences and science, technology and medicine, from the University of Liège, the Université Saint-Louis de Bruxelles and the Académie Royale de Belgique

PoPuPS publie plus de 20 revues et comptes rendus de colloques des domaines SHS et STM, de l'université de Liège mais aussi de l'Université Saint-Louis de Bruxelles et de l'Académie Royale de Belgique.

e-Publish ULiège

E-Publish is ULiège Library’s platform for publishing digital books.

It is a writing, co-writing and publishing tool and complies with the most recent standards for structured publishing.

With its 100% digital format, e-Publish:

• enables various enhancements (images, sounds and links);
• facilitates indexing and referencing;
• enables commenting;
• enables continuous publishing (continual updating of the same publication).
