New AI Research Assistant

ULiège Library now offers an innovative new tool: a Research Assistant based on generative artificial intelligence and large language models. Available as a new way to explore our catalogue, this tool is accessible after signing in via our portal.

How to access it?

• Directly via this link
• Or via the "AI Research Assistant" button that appears when viewing your search results in the catalogue.

How does it work?

• Natural language queries: Ask your questions simply, as you would to a colleague or a librarian, on an academic topic.
• Smart document selection: The tool searches academic resources (articles, ebooks, reports, theses…) in the catalogue and identifies the five most relevant documents in relation to your question.
• Enriched, well-sourced answers: Based on the abstracts of these documents, it generates a detailed response, complete with sources and links.
• Extended exploration: Using the "View more results in the ULiège Library collections" option, you can relaunch and deepen your search.
• Related search suggestions: The AI suggests related questions to broaden your thinking.

Why use it?

The Research Assistant does not replace human expertise, but aims to speed up the often time-consuming stages of information searching. It helps to:

• quickly grasp a topic: by providing a contextualised overview;
• efficiently identify relevant sources: by pinpointing key academic and scientific documents;
• encourage critical thinking: by giving access to references so you can verify information and deepen your analysis.
